Kickboxing is the art of punching & kicking derived from Thailand’s Muay Thai kick boxing. It is known as the Art of Eight Limbs as it uses the elbows and knees, as well as punches and kicks. American kickboxing began around 1970, as martial arts competitors grew frustrated with competitions as they did not allow full body contact. Using a combination of techniques from karate, boxing, taekwondo and other martial arts styles, it was created to compete competitively against them. Kickboxing training methods have recently become popular in fitness classes. The emphasis is on cardiovascular conditioning and full body workouts using circuit training of Muay Thai techniques. This is a great fitness program for losing weight, toning the body and increasing daily energy. Kickboxing works your upper and lower body and strengthens your core. Classes are for ages 14 and up, male and female.
